Do you have a growth mindset that will help you grow your business?
My daughter Emily is in grade 1 and came home from school with “I have a GROWTH MINDSET!” sheet of paper (pictured). I just loved it and think it’s fantastic that they are teaching kids to have a growth mindset. Heck – some adults and business owners do not have a growth mindset! The growth mindset can be applied to kids, sports and of course business. It can make or break a person and their success.
First – I think it would make sense to say what a FIXED mindset is Ex: My team has a certain amount of talent and that won’t change. OR The economy is bad so there is no way I’ll meet my profit goals. Basically – a given situation is the way it is and can’t be changed.
GROWTH mindset is where you believe change can happen and a situation can change through perseverance. There is always room to improve through effort and focus. And some great examples of growth mindset self talk is illustrated perfectly with my daughter’s school sheet!
I can always improve. There is always room for improvement – there is no limit on the goals you set for yourself and reaching them. I’m a firm believer that there is ALWAYS a solution a way to make any situation better or skillset improved.
Mistakes help me learn. Mistakes suck – there is no doubt about it. BUT – they tell us what breaks in the system there are – what elements of something is missing. If we take that information and create change – hey – we are all the better for it! See the positive in the mistakes.
I like to challenge myself. Yep – as stated above – learn something new and accomplishing something outside of your comfort zone is an amazing feeling.
My effort and attitude make all the difference. So true – if you don’t put in the effort – nothing will change and you won’t get ahead. Plus if you have a positive attitude it’ll help you push through the challenging times and forge ahead to success.
I am inspired by people who succeed. Love this – My initial inspiration years ago was Lisa Sassevich. She started at home with young kids and look at her now! It’s a case of – you know what – if they can do it – so can I. Be inspired and learn from the best!
I persevere when I am frustrated. What a great lesson for kids and business owners! Don’t give up. If one thing doesn’t work – something else will. Chin up and keep plugging away or finding new solutions.
Some of these thoughts are instinctual – I’m ‘built that way’ but some were learned over the years. Plus I have an amazing Business Coach and fellow Mastermind Members that support and help foster my growth mindset. I hope you glean a few from this article too – and know you CAN do it. ANYTHING is possible.
