Podcasts

Hi everyone. Welcome to another great episode of Smooth Sailing Online Support TV. I’m your host and captain Lyndsay Phillips stirring you to the choppy waters of fast phased business growth.  Today I want to talk to you about getting started with podcasts. As you know, they are just growing the trend.

It’s crazy and they are really, really good for marketing your business. I’m actually going to be launching my show any day now.  I’m super excited about that and I’ve actually gotten a lot of request the past week or so from people that are about to start their podcast show and don’t know how to start or don’t know what they need to get ahead of time or how to set that up. I thought I do this video to get you started.

Getting Started With Podcasts – The Basics

The first thing of course you want to think about is what is your podcast show name is going to be? What is your theme? What topics are you going to cover? What is your tagline going to be? What kind of topics are you going to cover? What is your target market? Once you kind of got that into place, then think about your podcast graphic. What is it going to look like? How is it going to have that? What image are you going to use for it?

Once you got those 2 things into place, you also going to want to get your intro and or outro for your podcast. Some of them you’ll notice have a little bit of music at the front.  Sometimes a voice over kind of introducing you as the host and also the show.  What is it about? You can easily get voice overs for like $5, $10 on Fiverr. There is tons of great sites online to get free music backgrounds.

The other 2 things that you want to get are iTunes account and then also an audio hosting account. Just like you host videos on YouTube you also need a website to host the audio files, some people use Amazon S3.

For me and my clients we use Libsyn. It’s a great way to get stats on who is downloading what and how often. That’s really useful and both really reasonable.  You also want to think about your transcripts. Are you going to have transcripts? Are you going to have show notes?

Are you going to write up the summary yourself?  This is the material that’s going to be on your webpage obviously with the graphic and then the audio link underneath it and then your transcripts or your show notes.

Just a few of the moving pieces that go along with having a podcast show.  I hope you enjoyed that Smooth Sailing business tip on getting started with podcasts for this week.  If you are experiencing fast paced business growth right now and need some support getting started with podcasts, please do reach out.
