The Evolution of Marketing and the Emergence of AI
We started our conversation reminiscing about how marketing has transformed over the years. We both agreed on the importance of authenticity in the online world. As we delved deeper into the conversation, we shifted our focus to the emergence of ChatGPT and AI, comparing it to past trends like audio groups and Clubhouse.
I asked Lindsey if ChatGPT is just another bandwagon or if it’s something business owners need to pay attention to. She firmly believes that ChatGPT is here to stay and ignoring it would put businesses at a disadvantage. We drew parallels to the impact of social media on marketing and emphasized the need to embrace new technologies.
Overcoming Resistance to ChatGPT
We acknowledged that some people resist ChatGPT due to fear and lack of understanding. Lindsey explained that ChatGPT can be a powerful tool for content marketing, but it won’t fix existing marketing problems. She shared her 20-60-20 rule for how to use ChatGPT effectively, which involves providing context, letting ChatGPT do the work, and adding a human touch.
ChatGPT: A Virtual Assistant at Your Fingertips
Lindsey shared her experience using ChatGPT, an AI tool, for various tasks. She mentioned a specific incident where her son spilled glue on the carpet and she turned to ChatGPT for help. She was amazed by the helpful answers it provided, which ultimately helped her remove the glue from the carpet.
We discussed how ChatGPT can be used for various purposes, such as generating show notes, creating social media posts, and even writing emails. Lindsey shared that she uses ChatGPT to write emails to her list, asking it to provide reasons why people should listen to her podcast episode. This not only saves her time but also helps her become a better writer by focusing on the benefits of the episode.
Upgrading to the Paid Version of ChatGPT
The conversation then shifted to the paid version of ChatGPT. Lindsey recommends upgrading to the paid version for better data and continuous improvements. She also advises organizing conversations with ChatGPT by creating separate threads or channels, similar to Slack channels.
The Concerns and Limitations of Using ChatGPT
Lindsey discussed the concerns and limitations of using ChatGPT. She mentioned that ChatGPT can sometimes lie or provide inaccurate information, as it is a computer program that generates responses based on data. She emphasized the importance of maintaining human touch and using one’s expertise to verify the information provided by ChatGPT. Lindsey also raised ethical concerns regarding the use of data and privacy, mentioning that proprietary data cannot be inputted into ChatGPT.
Other Tools for Content Creation
We also discussed other tools that Lindsey uses. She mentioned being a fan of Descript, a video editor that provides a script of the video on the left-hand side, making it easier to edit. Lindsay also mentioned using Recast for video editing based on my recommendation.
Organizing and Saving Prompts
Lindsey explained how she organizes and saves her prompts using Google Docs and an Excel spreadsheet called the “ChatGPT index.” She uses the headline system within Google Docs to create an organized index of prompts.
Using ChatGPT for Lead Generation
Lindsey explained how to use ChatGPT for lead generation in her business. She recommends going to ChatGPT and asking for ideas specific to your business and target audience. She suggests making the ideas unique and then using them to create content that generates leads.
I admitted that I never thought about using ChatGPT for sales or lead generation, as my focus has always been on creating educational content. Lindsey shared that she uses ChatGPT during coaching sessions with her clients to come up with marketing ideas on the fly. She also mentioned how she has used ChatGPT to answer questions and reverse engineer strategies for her podcast episodes.
We discussed the benefits of using ChatGPT as a brainstorming tool and how it can help in planning future episodes. Lindsey emphasized that learning how to use ChatGPT is a valuable skill for business owners and compared it to having a superpower. I appreciated the analogy and mentioned that I will start communicating with ChatGPT like a virtual assistant.
