The Journey into Podcasting
Catherine’s journey into podcasting began a few years ago when a client, who was a podcast mentor, encouraged her to start her own show. Like many of us, she was hesitant at first, feeling that the podcasting space was already saturated. However, she took the plunge and titled her first episode “Why I Didn’t Want to Start My Podcast.” Fast forward to today, and she’s contemplating an episode titled “Why I Don’t Want to Quit.”
I could relate to Catherine’s initial hesitation. When I started my podcast, I was afraid that no one would want to listen. But as I got into the swing of things, I discovered the joy of connecting with people from all corners of the globe.
The Art of Attracting High-Profile Guests
One of the things that intrigued me about Catherine’s podcast was her ability to attract high-profile guests. When I asked her about this, she explained that she doesn’t use a specific company or service to source guests. Instead, she follows her intuition and values, inviting guests who can truly share value with her audience, regardless of their online presence or number of followers.
Catherine’s approach to pitching is also unique. She finds LinkedIn to be the most effective platform for her, using it to build long-term relationships with industry leaders and super connectors who can introduce her to high-profile guests. She calls this her “A-List Method,” which involves intentionally building her LinkedIn network and establishing relationships with super connectors.
The Importance of Authenticity and Building Relationships
Throughout our conversation, Catherine emphasized the importance of genuine human interaction in podcasting. She believes in approaching guests from a place of authenticity and care, rather than treating it as a transaction. This approach has led to some surprising opportunities, including being booked as a guest on 22 podcasts in one month.
We both agreed that building relationships and leveraging connections can lead to amazing opportunities. For Catherine, interacting with others is not just a means to an end, but a way to feed her soul. While not everyone may find this level of interaction energizing, for those who do, it’s important to prioritize doing what you love.
Building a Personal Brand
Another topic we touched on was the significance of building a personal brand. Catherine shared an example of how her personal brand led to an unexpected interview request. A strong personal brand, we agreed, instills credibility and trust, making it easier for people to find and connect with you.
The Power of Visibility and Authority in Podcasting
We concluded our conversation by discussing the importance of visibility and authority in podcasting. Catherine shared where listeners can find and connect with her, including her website and podcast. I expressed my gratitude for Catherine’s insights and the value she brought to our conversation.
In the world of podcasting, it’s clear that authenticity, relationship-building, and a strong personal brand can open doors to incredible opportunities. As Catherine’s journey shows, it’s not about the numbers, but about the quality of the content and the fit with your target audience.
